Training on better use of social media

Case Study

The Question:

Following a comprehensive audit of all of Salford Community Leisure’s (SCL) social media accounts in 2013, we were asked how their social media feeds could produce a higher rate of engagement and drive more traffic back to their website.

The Answer:

We believe that those at the heart of any company know the business best, and with the right tools and guidance staff internally can achieve the best results from their social media channels.  With that in mind, we prepared and delivered a ½ day training session and workshop to a small group of nine.  This included senior marketers and social media account administrators covering SCL’s four business areas; sport, libraries, lifestyles and culture.

The social media training session took on the form of a workshop. It was a mix of presentation and discussion. Access’ Rob Goodswen led the team through a series of discussions, refreshing their memories of the audit findings and subsequent objectives that were set, before moving on to a discussion on the benefits of good social media. .

We feel that it is important to teach ‘best practice’ methods to clients through examples of their own work. With 8 accounts to examine, this part of the workshop is the nuts and bolts and what really makes the attendees understand the principles of social media marketing and online engagement.  In assessing their own work, attendees are fully engaged and have a clearer understanding of good and not so good examples without pressure and in the comfort of their peer group.

The Result:

The workshop and training session provided the attendees with a roadmap to improve their digital marketing and communications skills by learning more about popular areas of digital marketing and gaining a better insight into the tools they use, and how to get the most out of them for the benefit of their online community. Following the session attendees expressed their new found confidence to implement the strategies suggested and ultimately add value to their social media feeds.

“We were really impressed with the planning that had obviously gone into this training session to ensure it was pitched at the right level for the team. On the day, Rob was a great facilitator. He was relaxed and engaging with the entire group, who were really pleased and gained a lot from the session. In particular I think the amount of homework that Rob had clearly done on each account and the approach where he showed what they were doing well (and not so well) really engaged each admin and helped them to know how they could improve.”
